Now that Christmas is behind us (minus a truckload of leftovers), it is time to think about New Year's Eve. If you are hosting a party or small get-together, this idea from Martha (who else?) is sure to be a hit. In Spain it is a tradition to eat 12 grapes on New Year's Eve. Each sweet grape denotes a good month in the new year, each sour grape a less then stellar month. Threading grapes on wooden skewers to lay on decorative trays or popped perfectly into champagne flutes would be a great tradition to begin.

Oh so cute. I love the way they look in the glass. My family does the 12 grapes tradition every New Years Eve. Another tradition is to run around the block with a suitcase to make sure you travel in the coming year.
It's quite a sight to see!
I love this tradition! I totally plan to do it this year given my newfound obsession with Spain. :)
Camila, I will definitely have to do the suitcase thing. My husband is going to think I'm nuts! LOL!
I saw that in her magazine, such a cool tradition! Happy New Year to you, cheers to good times in 2009!
I'm so doing this! Actually, do you think I could substitute the grapes for olives?
And do you think I could do an extra dirty martini, instead of champers?
Please advise.
Love,
Bee
Cute idea perfect for those of us with little. Mama can drink her bubbly and little can drink his apple, all with a swizzle of grapes.
