This Looks So Bad...Yet So Good

Paint vs. Paper

Lately, I am thinking that wallpaper might not in fact be the 80's devil that I thought it was. I am seeing so many cool ones on other sites that I am thinking that I might like to wallpaper a room in my new house. Maybe a small space like a powder room. I was just on black.white.bliss and I am loving these Jonathan Adler papers. So very chic. But of course if I could have my preference it would be this. Hands down.

Blogger Bad Asses

Recently I have been given some awesome shout outs on other blogs. Always a whore for a compliment, I loved it. I am now finally getting around to returning the favor and listing my favorite 5 blogs to visit every day. In no particular order:

Petunia Face: OMG. This girl has reached cult status in my book. My best friends and even their sisters go to her blog because it is hysterical. I save her blog for my lunch time guilty pleasure so I can give it my undivided attention. She has the greatest one liners I have ever heard and writes the exact same way I think. Kindred spirits me and PF are.

A Cup Of Jo: I go to Joanna's blog daily and instantly feel calmed. Her blog is my virtual happy place. She is a talented magazine writer with incredible personal style. I love exploring her blog and finding all kinds of wonderful things to learn about. I imagine everything about her is chic and fabulous from her apartment to her wardrobe to her coffee order at Starbucks. But then again, she may drink tea...because she is chic like that. :)

Scented Glossy Magazines: SGM is a girl after my very own heart. Her ability to know more about reality TV than anyone I have ever known makes her a goddess in my eyes. I imagine one day SGM and I will be united on stage at the World Series of Pop Culture Championship and serve it up to some unsuspecting motherf*ckers who have no idea what kind of forces they are dealing with. SGM 4 eva.

Just Putting It Out There: This blog is written by my friend Noelle. N and I grew up together and had the fortunate experience of graduating from the most ghetto high school in all of Houston. No, it really wasn't but it is up there now. It's made national news for shootings and stuff. Holla!! Anyway, Noelle is the pride and joy of that joint because she went Ivy and never looked back. Homegirl is a Yale graduate who works for Page Six. I swear if she wasn't just the coolest chick on earth I would hate her. Oh, yeah and she is gorgeous too. She modeled in high school and has been in Maxim. I know, I know. Life's fair, right? She writes without a doubt some of the craziest things and I love that I know her and can read them just like how I know she would say them, voices, inflections and all!

And last but not least:
In(side) The Loop: Courtney is actually a friend of a friend of a friend. Yes, those actually exist. She and I connected online and have come to realize we used to live like 5 blocks from one another and when my new casa is done we will live even closer. She is absolutely hysterical and has a zest for life that is refreshing. She posts about some of the coolest things and has the most uncanny eye when it comes to fabulous design and fashion. I must go to her blog an absurd amount of times a day to see what she's got cooked up next! I look forward to evenings on the patio at Onion Creek and bike rides around the Heights as soon as I pull the trigger on that heart be-specked cruiser!

This Looks Precious!

Audrey Tautou is just gorgeous!

Glasses Half Full?

Mary Kate Olsen is either taking in the Paris fashion shows behind those lenses or someone is doing a killer Weekend at Bernie's impersonation.

Chanel Envy

Totally coveting Lauren's Chanel bag!! Sooooo gorgeous!

Poster Love

I so want this poster for my new abode.

Party Of 8

Totally loving the French Metal Chairs and Chandler Dining Table at Pottery Barn right now. Doug and I are toying with the idea of new dining room furniture in the new house but our current chairs are not that old and I still love them a lot.

How Appropriate

The Olsen twins are writing a coffee table book. We know these gals love their Venti runs to Starbucks so I guess it was only a matter of time before they put their love of coffee and fashion together in a hybrid love child. The book, entitled Influences, will be all about their influences in the fashion world. I cannot wait to see some of Mary-Kate's choices. They will no doubt be eclectic and radical.

The Hills Are Alive

Get ready for the continued Season 3 of The Hills. The trailer is pretty action packed. Whitney leaves Teen Vogue, Lauren and Whit go to Paris, She-Pratt goes to FIDM, Heidi and Spencer engage in all sorts of fakery, Justin Bobby makes a cameo and it looks as though Heidi and Audrina might be on a a road to reconciliation much to Lauren's disapproval. I can't wait!!

Green Gardens

Last year my in-laws bought me this gorgeous cedar potting bench so I could live out my Martha Stewart dreams. One day I will plant a Meyer Lemon tree at this very table. I can't wait to put it on my new back deck and adorn it with these...which will make me look all the more serious of a gardener. Don't get the wrong idea. I am by no means good at growing anything. It's just a goal to one day become a girl who doesn't kill plants.

Pretty On The Inside

It seems as though the new issue of Vogue with the unfortunately photoshopped Drew Barrymore on the cover has some stunning shots of the actress inside the magazine. I think both of these shots are gorgeous and they accompany a delightfully cheerful article about Drew that is worth the read.

Bilson Bangs

My girl crush on Rachel Bilson is alive and real despite insights that her personality is not as awesome as her eye for fashion. I don't know if I am feeling the bangs on her. Her head is so small that I feel like half her face is covered up. And of course this leads me to another dilemma, are bangs still big? I sit here cursing mine to grow the eff out already and everyone and their dog is turning up with a freshly shorn crop of bangs. What's a girl to do? Trim or grow?

New Heights

Unlike most people, I never had a growth spurt. I am still today as tall (or should I saw short?) as I was when I was in jr. high... 5'1" and not a smidge more. It is up to me to give myself what my genetics failed to come though on...height. I think my new shoes will give me a whole new outlook on life...one that doesn't require me to look up at all times but maybe to actually look straight ahead and see the world as if I were the gargantuan size of 5'5".

Point & Click

I am so excited about the introductory photography class my friend Megan and I are going to take in March. We signed up yesterday for a full day workshop where we are going to learn our way around a 35mm camera. You have to provide your own camera and I am now in possession of the old Kodak camera that my parents used to take pictures of my brother and I when we were little. It is still in excellent shape and so hilariously 70's with that multi-colored neck strap. I think it is kind of cool that I will be learning on the camera that was their first ever "big" purchase as a married couple. Hopefully I will do okay and have some cool photos to share with you all in the near future!

His & Hers

Some people have His & Hers towels. Us? We now have matching blogs. That's right. My husband has started a blog. His name is Doug and he is a very talented and accomplished graphic designer with more energy and tenacity than anyone I have ever met. Of course that could be Red Bull induced....you'll have to check out his blog to understand. He is a wonderfully creative person with unique perspectives and hilarious insights and his blog will be a daily delight. Check him out and show him some blog love!

I Really Hope...

that Calista Flockhart did not get up this morning and Google herself. Because if she typed in this, my Worst Dressed post comes up first...even before Defamer's. And if you swap her name with Ellen Page, it comes up second. Yikes.

Just to be clear, I love Miss Page to bits. She is precious and all of her adorableness and spunk were cloaked in a too heavy black dress last night. That's all.

Light My Fire

I am really loving these beautiful vintage style mercury glass votives from Pottery Barn. On sale too!

Jimmy Kimmel Strikes Back

In response to girlfriend, Sarah Silverman's video message, Jimmy fight back with his new video message, I'm F***ing Ben Affleck. I think Sarah's is better, but Jimmy's packs more star power. Huey Lewis? Does it get bigger than that?

Bam!

A bumptastic Angelina and her 70's porn director boyfriend, Brad Pitt, at the Independent Spirit Awards.

Oscars 2008: Worst Dressed List

Those who took one for the team last night were:

Calista Flockhart just looked haggard last night! And what's with her hair? She looks like she is about to wash her face!!

Usually stunning if not a little avant garde, Cate Blanchett just looked blah last night. She was a DOUBLE NOMINEE last night! Girl could have had to give two speeches. Why on earth did she not even try???

Ellen Page looked all kinds of uncomfortable last night. Like it was the first dress she ever wore or something. Plus, it looked kinda young and babyish for her. Like she was playing dress up in her mom's necklaces.

Oh, Jennifer Hudson. While that Roberto Cavalli gown is gorgeous and kudos to her for wearing white, it makes her boobs look like the Starship Enterprise. UFO boobs are a no no!!

Lastly, we have Mr. & Mrs Worst Dressed in the form of Daniel Day-Lewis and wife Rebecca Miller. I mean, that is one impressive display of fugly that I don't even think Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton could have pulled off.

Who did you think looked tore up from the floor up?

Oscars 2008: The Winners

Of course I missed most of these as my TV disintegrated after this appeared on my screen for her win for Best Supporting Actress.

Oscars 2008: Best Dressed List

I must say, that the Oscars were slightly underwhelming this year. Not that many fabulous gowns, not that much star power (really...like half the cast of Grey's Anatomy were presenters) and not that many surprises. While the gowns were not plenty, the ones that stood out were drop dead gorgeous. Here is my best dress list for the evening:

I totally want to be Helen Mirren when I grow up. How gorgeous is she? She still manages to look every bit as glamourous and sexy as the younger women without looking distasteful or like she is trying too hard. I love her.

This might be my favorite of the night. Anne Hathaway looked so gorgeous and the rose detail on the bodice almost looked real. The contrast with the hair, skin and those to die for diamond earrings was very striking.

Best black dress of the night. Jennifer Garner, who admitted to being styled head to toe by Rachel Zoe, looked gorgeous. Her hair was fresh and the jewelry was spectacular and I love the element of surprise at the bottom of the dress as the E! Channel glam cam onced over her. She also wins for most awkward red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest as Gary Busey jumps in and kisses her on the neck.

Jessica Alba is my pick for best maternity style. This Marchesa gown is beautiful and she looks stunning and happy. She wins for second most awkward red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest when he asks her is she was going to breast feed. What happened to the good ol' days of Isaac Mizrahi just feeling all the ladies up?

Katherine Heigl looks gorgeous. Her figure is so well complimented in that dress. I love her shorter hair and the fact that she never looks like the dress is wearing her.

Lastly, the most unusual and risky dress of the evening went to Best Actress winner Marion Cotillard. It is so beautiful and the textures just make you want to touch it. The dress could have come off wacky but her elegant French attitude made it look so regal and totally Hollywood.

Who were your favorites?

Best Picture

Atonement. Why it won’t win? This movie was a total disappointment. The best thing in it is the amazing green dress Keira Knightley wears. The movie is almost all basically a false story. I felt totally robbed in the end. I really don’t think this has a chance.

Juno. Why it won’t win? The Academy does not want a stripper-turned-screenwriter to win for Best Picture on her first movie. Despite being one of the most clever movies of the year, I’m thinking it is too young all round for the win.

Michael Clayton. Why it won’t win? It just won’t.

No Country For Old Men. Why it will win? People are talking about this movie non-stop. Everyone says it is the movie to see. Now, I myself can’t see a movie starring Brandon from The Goonies winning such a tremendous honor, but stranger things have happened.

There Will Be Blood. Why it has a shot? Because it would be totally boss for Daniel Day Lewis to get up and accept the award and look straight at Javier Bardeem and Josh Brolin and say, “I drank your milkshake.” Now that is what I am talkin’ about!!!

The Gossip Girl...Girl

I, like so many of you, am a huge fan of Gossip Girl. I can't wait to for the show to come back and see where all the characters pick up. Recently while flipping through Teen Vogue (Yeah, I'll be 28 next week...so?) I read an article about young designer Abigail Lorick, the designer behind the fictional Eleanor Waldorf Collection on the show. Lorick is actually an accomplished designer...at 25!!! The clothes that pose as the EWC on the show are actually her own collection in real life. Such a fascinating story and in a teen magazine, no less! You can purchase Lorick online at Revolve Clothing. Here are some adorable looks from her collection.

Best Supporting Actress

Cate Blanchette for I’m Not There. Why she will win. While this was one of the worst movies I have ever seen (which pains me to say as a die hard Bob Dylan fan) Cate was the only enjoyable part of the film. She captured Dylan’s iconic voice and look and at times seemed almost more Dylan than the man himself.

Ruby Dee for American Gangster. Why she won’t win. That was Denzel’s show. If someone is going to win an award for that movie it was going to be D himself. Sorry, Ruby.

Saoirse Ronan for Atonement. Why she won’t win. Her part was crap. This chick scared me about at much as the little girl in The Ring. She was creepy and annoying.

Amy Ryan for Gone Baby Gone. Why she might win. People seem captivated by her performance. People feel for a woman who’s child has been abducted…even if that woman is a crack head. She has a shot.

Tilda Swinton for Michael Clayton. Why she absolutely cannot win. TV’s across America will implode if her mug shows up on screen. Plus, she will no doubt be the worst dressed of the evening.

Flowy & Flirty

Flirty fabulousness from Tibi.

Best Lead Actress:

Cate Blanchett fo Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Why she won’t win? This role is like second nature to her by now. No challenge! Boring!

Julie Christie for Away From Her. Why she’ll win? She plays a woman with Alzheimer’s. It's good karma to give it to the lady with Alzheimer’s. Plus, she’s a legend and Oscar digs that.

Marion Cotillard for La Vie En Rose. Why she could win? She sings, she's foreign and an unknown in the US. Her winning could launch her as a household name. Conspiracy theory!

Laura Linney for The Savages. Why she won’t win. She plays the same kind of character in EVERYTHING!!! Plus, her voice is annoying and he speech would be a snooze.

Ellen Page for Juno. Why she should win. This would be the win to shake up the night! Young, new on the scene, Page has tons of buzz behind her. Her speech would be hilarious and solidify her as the next Jodi Foster.

Ring A Ding Ding

How pretty are these stackable rings by jewelry designer Marcia Moran? They look like vintage rings passed down from your grandmother. Together, they have a striking presence. I love the various metals and the different shapes of the crystals.

Best Supporting Actor:

Casey Affleck for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Why he won’t win? He’s Casey Affleck.

Javier Bardem for No Country For Old Men. Why he is a shoe in? That hair. That hair deserves it’s own Oscar. But then again, I sat through this guy's performance of Love in the Time of Cholera and I think I deserve an award for that.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman for Charlie Wilson’s War. Why he won’t win? He just won for Capote. But then again Oscar strikes the uggos twice. Just ask Hillary Swank.

Hal Holbrook for Into The Wild. Why he won’t win? Too old. Not hip. Only in the movie for 15 minutes max. You’ll cheer for him because he’s old, but in the end that will be his downfall. Seriously, he is so old my Google search did not turn up any images. I had to dig for this one.

Tom Wilkinson for Michael Clayton. Why he won’t win? Because this movie was made 15 years ago and called The Firm and it sucked then too.
