One of my favourite accessories right now is oversize hair bows. A lot of people sell these on Etsy and other craft sites, but they are super easy to make yourself and then you can get the exact design and color that you want! Don’t fret if you don’t have access to a sewing machine or you don’t know how to sew, you can make fabulous no-sew hair bows! If you make a lot of your own clothing then making a hair bow out of some of your leftover fabric would give you a super cute matching accessory. How big you make it is up to you, but in my opinion the bigger the better! I think the big droopy ones look very anime-style, they’d be great for cosplay or wearing to a con. Or you could make several matching tiny ones and wear a few in your hair at once!
Here is a video that demonstrates the no-sew option which uses hot glue instead. You can usually find plain hair clips at craft stores, dollar stores, beauty supply stores, and sometimes even your local drug store. Since the bows are lightweight, they’ll work with a few different types of clip. For fabric I like to visit thrift shops. Some of them sell discounted pieces of fabric, or you can always upcycle some old clothes with prints and patterns that you like into new accessories! I try to recycle or reuse things instead of buying them new wherever possible, keeps them out of a landfill!
Your imagination is really your limit with what you can do with these. You could add rhinestones or sequins, feathers, lace, ribbon, paint, glitter…pretty much anything! These are pretty easy to make and a great activity for a rainy afternoon in. It’s even a suitable activity for children, although they may need help with the hot glue. Put on your favourite music, make some tea, and have a DIY crafternoon!
